Students in Foundation have been practising moving in different ways, particularly running, jumping, dodging, moving sideways, as well as spatial awareness during games of freeze. They have had opportunities to practise kicking a ball, using the words look (at the ball), step (next to the ball with non-kicking foot), kick (with dominant foot). They have also been shown how to perform an over-arm throw and have taken part in various throwing activities.
Students in Years 1-6 have completed a unit focusing on Soccer.
In Year 1/2 the focus has been on practising their kicking and ball control using only their feet. This has included dribbling the ball around and between obstacles, as well as passing the ball to a partner and attempting to kick a goal.
Year 3-6 students have been practising the more advanced skills of dribbling and passing using both feet, moving to space and learning the main positions on the field, such as defender, midfielder, forward/striker, and the associated skills required for each position. They finished the unit by playing a game of Soccer, which gave them a chance to showcase their skills and understanding of the rules and strategies, while integrating the concepts of teamwork, communication, and fair play.
All students in Years 1-6 have also been running laps of the oval to increase their aerobic capacity and improve the functioning of their heart, lungs and muscles.
