State Lawn Bowls

The school recently had representatives competing at the State Lawn Bowls Championships. Henry B, Charlie B and Charlie P travelled to Sunbury to compete after qualifying through the local competition.

In the first game, the boys faced Trinity College, Colac. In a tight contest, the boys had their opportunities to put the game away, but some quality bowls by the Trinity crew got them back into the contest. We were one up with one end to play, but Trinity held their nerve and got it back in the last end, so we opened the competition with a draw.

Our second game against Fitzroy was another tight contest. The boys went down by three early but clawed their way back into the contest, a draw with one end to play, Fitzroy got the job done when it mattered, and we left ruing missed chances.

In the last game, we faced Benalla and we were able to get on the winners list, but it was too little too late, and in a tight group, we just missed out on playing in the semi. It was a great day and the bowls were played in good spirits. Well done to all involved.

Year 8 Soccer

Thursday 27th March will be remembered as both an exhilarating and heartbreaking day for the Year 8 Boys Soccer team. Coach, Peter Fawcett, had assembled a very talented team, and the boys were keen to put their skills on display and represent St Aug's. In the preliminary games, St Aug's lived up to the hype; showing the ability to defend and quickly transition to our forward strikers, who didn't disappoint with accurate shots on goal. Games against Rochester and Ky P-12 resulted in convincing wins and progression to the Grand Final against St Joseph's College.

In the grand final, the boys continued to play with confidence and dominated the game with regular, but unsuccessful, shots on goal. After a 0-0 score at half time, glory looked inevitable when we were awarded a penalty shot late in the game. Luck didn't go our way, with the St Joseph's goal-keeper making a great save. Unfortunately, with only one minute in the game remaining, we conceded a penalty and St Joseph's took the opportunity to win the day.

It was a great effort from our boys and very pleasing to see them having fun whilst giving it their best efforts.

Cross Country

Why have one Cross Country event in a day when you can have two?

Sunny skies and smiling faces greeted us all at Parkland Golf Course on Monday for the Years 3-6 and Years 7-12 Cross Country events. For the Years 3 and 4 students, this was their first time being part of the full cross country event. Their excitement was evident and there were many fantastic dress ups on display!

It was great to see all of the students that came along participating and doing their best to earn points for their house!

Delany just managed to take out the title in the Years 3-6 event whilst in the Years 7-12 event, Delany comfortably cruised to the finish line.

Some of our students will have the opportunity to represent St. Augustine's at the Campaspe events in the next couple of weeks.
