Year 10 Work Experience

It was so wonderful to see that  all our international students participated in last week's  Work Experience. The workplaces included local primary schools , restaurants, Melbourne university (IT/Engineering Dept  and International Education Division).  We would like to thank our College Career team for their support and efforts in guiding our students from the very beginning in term one (how to write emails /call) through to the end of the journey very recently. The whole experience was very rewarding for our students and has been a great success.

Here I would like to share our multicultural aide Charmaine Ji's special report from her site visiting experience:

"Both students ( Sean and Myles at Mentone Primary School) had the opportunity to work across different year levels from Prep to Grade 4 (quite different with Seaford primary school), and they did all sorts of tasks – classwork, helping out with activities, even joining in PE classes and Auslan classes. One day, they also helped out with the kindergarten kids during a transition visit to the school.

When I asked them what they enjoyed the most, they had heaps of positive things to say. When I asked if there was anything they did not enjoy, they both said no!

While I was there, a few teachers came over to chat and gave such great feedback - especially about Sean. They said he was polite, respectful, and really proactive. He helped explain maths to students, joined in activities, supported the kindergarten kids during transition, and even tried hard to help fix the laminator with Mr Ken Bergen(AP)! All teachers mentioned that he always noticed when someone needed help and jumped in without being asked.

The kids really loved him – some even wrote poems and drew pictures for him!

It was so lovely to see both boys doing so well and enjoying the experience. I felt so proud of them and happy to see how well they represented Mordialloc College.

Only problem now – not enough space on the forms to fit all the positive feedback! What a lovely problem!"
