Bonjour Parents and Students!
Welcome back to an exciting new term of French at Tarneit Rise Primary School!We have had a fantastic start, with students diving straight into new learning and building on their previous knowledge. Here’s a look at what each year level has been up to:
- Prep students reviewed the days of the week and learned numbers 6 to 10 in French. They also completed a fun cutting and pasting activity to match French words with images, helping them recognize and understand basic vocabulary.
- Grade 1 learned vocabulary for farm animals and practiced writing complete sentences to describe the animals and their colours in French. We are so proud of how confident they are becoming with sentence structures!
- Grade 2 explored vocabulary for wild animals and learned how to describe their colours, paying close attention to gender agreement. Students are now starting to understand how adjectives in French change depending on whether the noun is masculine or feminine.
- Grade 3 worked on their listening and pronunciation skills by focusing on vowel combination sounds and word-ending sounds. Students practiced recognizing and saying new, unfamiliar words with more confidence.
- Grade 4 expanded their vocabulary by learning about food. They wrote sentences describing what they eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They also learned a variety of emotion words and understood how emotions in French can change their form depending on gender.
- Grades 5 and 6 began the term by studying a French poem, with some of the best recitations to be chosen for performance at the Bastille Day assembly later this term! They also learned how to change affirmative sentences into negative ones and practiced answering questions with negative responses.
It’s wonderful to see all our students engaging so enthusiastically with their French learning! We are looking forward to even more progress and creativity throughout the term.
