Physical Education News

Dear Parents and Families,

Welcome back to another action packed Term of PE! We are all very excited to kick start the term as we welcome Mrs Hubbard to the team who brings a wealth of knowledge with her from years of experience in PE.

Superstar of the week

This weeks superstars of the week are Vivienne and Julian Williams! Vivienne and Julian both competed with their best efforts and attitudes at the grade 4 and 6 Athletics carnivals last week. You have done Peris house very proud with your efforts!

Please send in any sporting achievements that your children have achieved this year so that we can share them and celebrate them.

Preps, Grade One and Grade Two

The Preps have continued to work on catching skills and have been assessed on these abilities. They have also taken what they have learnt and applied it to different game settings with a level of competitiveness.Grade 1s and 2s have focused specifically on the release, rotate and catch technique. In particular, we have spent time focusing on the rotate element which has allowed student to really improve on their catching. This key skill will be incredibly important for various sports they will be playing throughout the year.

Grade 3 and Grade 4

Grade 3’s and 4’s have started off their invasion game unit with our first week focus on Octopus and finding space. Students were also introduced to zones as an area before we look at zonal defence. We have also started learning the skill of dribbling which will help us in the game of European Handball.

Grade 5 and Grade 6

The grade 5’s have started Invasion games and are getting straight into AFL which is their first of two invasion games. We are starting with the skill of handballing which is a key way to move the ball around the field in AFL.

The grade 6’s have started invasion games as well and are looking at strategies for defensive and offensive by creating space as well as closing down space.

Team of the week

Team of the Week is a way to showcase students who are showing the school values in PE across all areas. These students give their best efforts and support other students around them to be the best they can be.
