Hi Tarneit Rise families,

 

Welcome back to another term of learning. This term all year levels are learning about music. All grades completed a preassessment on their singing to gage where students need support or extension with using their voice to create music.

 

Last week Prep students were introduced to music and explored singing using different songs such as the hello song, the deep blue sea, shake your sillies out and the flower song. This week students are practicing using body percussion to create music as well as using their voice to sing. They are also learning about feeling the beat in music.

 

In week 1 Grade 1 students explored different instruments and learnt how to play untuned percussion instruments. This week students are listening to music and thinking about the different instruments used in a song and how the dynamics and tempo in a song.

 

The Grade 2 students last week explored different instruments and learnt how to play untuned percussion instruments. In week 2 students listened to different cultural music and used a venn diagram to compare songs from different cultures.

 

Last week the Grade 3 and 4 students learnt about the elements of music. These are pitch, dynamics, articulation, structure & form and duration which is broken up into three parts, beat, tempo and rhythm. This week students are exploring music from different cultures and how music has changed over time.

 

In week the Grade 5 & 6 students were introduced to the elements of music. These are pitch, dynamics, articulation, tone & timbre, structure & form, texture and duration which is broken up into three parts, beat, tempo and rhythm. The students focus on exploring pitch which is the high and low sounds in music and dynamics which is the loud and soft or quiet sounds in music. This week students are revising their knowledge of pitch and dynamics then exploring duration which is broken up into three parts, beat, tempo and rhythm.
