Grade 2 Community News

Dear Grade 2 Families,
We are continuing to have an amazing term 1. The students are becoming more and more confident with our new maths and literacy routines and are working hard to achieve their learning goals.
English
In InitiaLit, we have been focusing on mastering a variety of spelling rules, such as,‘ew’, ‘ue’ and u_e, along with new tricky words such as, really, animal and because. Each week we have been focusing on our vocabulary words and identifying if they are Nouns, Verbs or Adjectives. During comprehension lessons, we were learning how to make predictions before we start reading and during the text.
Maths
In maths, the students have been continuing to build their confidence in 2 digit subtraction using algorithms, as well as building on their regrouping knowledge for addition and subtraction. We continue to learn about writing equations based on groups and shape rotation (clockwise and anticlockwise) - quarter, half and full turn.
Knowledge Building
The students loved learning about Ancient India and making connections to their own life. In term 2, we will be learning about People and Places in Werribee and the history behind it.
