Humantities

Term Two began with Humanities Week, where a particular focus was on ANZAC Day. Thanks to the Australian War Memorial, students could immerse themselves in and fully appreciate the impact that war has had and continues to have on our society. I invite you to read some short reflections from the Year 10 History class:

“The artifacts we looked at were fascinating and opened a broader mindset on how horrible the living conditions were…”  - Ebony C.

“Looking around the room, I saw the Artifacts worn, used and amused by the students, which made the war experiences feel real”- Nevaeh L.

“The postcard of the Australian soldier stood out to me because the story behind it made me think how sad it would have been for people to have family in the army. Knowing he died in battle made it sadder.” – Tyson N.

To reinforce key concepts, fun and competitively, students participated in digital Quizlet challenges, helping them consolidate their understanding of economic systems, financial literacy, and a challenge to guess the flags of the World correctly. It was incredibly pleasing to see the collaboration between senior and junior students.

Finally, a school-wide competition was introduced to students in 7-8 STEP and 9-10 History. Students were challenged to research one ancestor and how their journey impacted them. They were also challenged to present their findings in a visually appealing manner. The Grand prize for the junior and senior recipients will be four passes to Gumbuya World. The second prize for juniors and seniors will be one general admission to Gumbuya World.

Winners will be announced next week.
