Mr Andrew Monk, Director of Boarding
Slowing our minds down when we are so busy can be difficult, and in the Boarding House we try to help the boarders focus on tasks that promote mindfulness. Getting involved in a community jigsaw puzzle is just one way we can slow down and refocus our thoughts on a single task rather than on many at once. Our boarders have been slowly contributing each morning, afternoon and evening, and the puzzle is coming together. Not only does this avoid the temptation of devices, but it also promotes good conversation between Houses and year levels.

The Australian Football League (AFL) season is upon us. This week, we held our traditional theme night, celebrating and showcasing support for our favourite footy teams. With plenty of laughs and dress-ups, our boarders learned about AFL, different teams, local connections, and, of course, simply enjoying each other's company. Footy is not everybody’s cup of tea, but it does demarcate the start of the winter sports season. With hockey, netball, basketball, soccer, AFL, and more sports available to our boarders, students will be coming to and from their Houses with energy and enthusiasm.

Finny has started her boarding journey this year. As a Year 11 student residing in Portland, Finny has taken to boarding with ease. Her optimistic, positive outlook aligns with the values of the House; she has made many friends and is joining in a range of activities. Congratulations, Finny, and we look forward to your future success in boarding and at College.

Finny shared some words of reflection from Term One:
"When I started boarding, I didn’t know what to expect. It was my first time at a new school with new people and a whole new routine, and I couldn’t picture what it was going to be like. I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly I was able to get settled in and how my routine naturally fell into place (balancing study, socialising, and activities/sports). Over the past five weeks, I’ve realised that it was one of the best decisions I’ve made. Whether it’s Year 12 weddings in the Refectory or House sports competitions, something is always going on. Of course, there are some slightly less exciting things, like the walk to school every morning, but having good friends around you somehow even makes this enjoyable. Overall, I’m glad I took the chance on boarding. I’m keen to see what the rest of the year brings."
a much-loved tradition and a practical addition to students’ winter wardrobes in the Boarding House. Providing students comfort while celebrating our boarding community.
