Learning Conferences

This week we have our Learning Conferences. This is an important opportunity for parents, children, and teachers to come together and discuss the learning that has occurred over the term.

Learning Conferences are an important opportunity to strengthen the partnership between home and school. They provide a dedicated time for teachers, parents, and students to come together to celebrate achievements, discuss progress, and set goals for continued learning.

These conversations allow teachers to share valuable insights into your child’s academic, social, and emotional development. Parents can provide context from home that helps teachers to better support their child’s learning journey. By involving the child directly, students are empowered to take ownership of their learning, reflect on their progress, and set goals for their future learning.

Portfolios

At the learning conference, you will discuss your child’s learning portfolio. I have included an outline of the portfolios below.

The Student Portfolio is a compilation of a child’s learning. It is an integral component of our assessment and reporting process and demonstrates the child’s achievement. It is a way of sharing between child and parent, the child’s learning experiences, growth and future learning goals. The Student Portfolio is a valuable tool for parents to use with their child to discuss and celebrate their learning journey.

The Student Portfolio is an integral component of our assessment and reporting procedures and is aimed at:

  • Communicating achievement/progress to parents and child

  • Celebrating a child’s learning journey

  • Assisting parents in helping children at home

  • Linking the Student Report to samples of student work

  • Being a reflective tool with and for students

  • Promoting discussion

  • Recording progress

This portfolio will be sent home each term and is to include annotated and reflective samples of the child’s work across a range of learning areas. It provides opportunities for students to self-assess and set goals for their future learning.
