Double Debating Victory!

This past week, our debating teams shone on stage — with the Year 6 students competing on Tuesday night and the Year 8s on Thursday night — and both claiming impressive victories against strong opposition.

Year 6 Team ('The Quokkas') - Charis, Zoe, Grace, Simi, Tanisha

The team took on Grange Primary and came out on top with a confident and convincing performance. Tackling the topic “That superheroes should be held accountable for the damage they cause,” they impressed the judges with their sharp arguments and teamwork. Their next challenge will be the semi-final, debating “That Halloween should be a public holiday in Australia.” The team was originally coached by Mrs Wicks, and with her on long service leave, Mr Lee has stepped in to continue guiding them.

Year 8 Team - Liya, Diana, Mia, Cara

On Thursday night, our Year 8s faced Glenunga High School in what turned out to be a nail-biter. The debate was so close the judges had to step out of the room to deliberate — something that only happens when the decision is incredibly tight! In the end, our team’s passionate and well-reasoned case “That homeschooling is quiet rebellion against conventional education” secured them the win. They now have just one week to prepare for their semi-final “That there should be a law to protect the Australian flag from desecration.” A big congratulations also to Megan Tran (Year 10), who has been doing a fantastic job as student coach.

We are enormously proud of both teams for their energy, skill, and determination.

Recent Update

Exciting news — both of our debating teams are heading to the Grand Final on Saturday, 27th at Parliament House in Adelaide! 🎉 Our Year 6 team, The Quokkas, will argue the negative side of “That Dreamworld should be allowed to expand,” while our Year 8s will also take the stage in their own Grand Final matchup. What an incredible achievement for both teams — we couldn’t be prouder!
