Art

Term 3, Week 8

Congratulations BPS Artists on a creative and action-packed term of Artwork.

This term junior level students have been busy painting and collaging winter wonderlands and Monet’s landscapes. Learning focus on pastel colours, tints, shades, and intensity in colour mixing, has led to further understanding of colours and the colour wheel.

Learning about the Art Elements of Line, Shape, Colour, Pattern, Texture and Form has been integral to all year levels through a range of activities.

A big thank you to our wonderful Art Captains Elektra and Eve, who do so much work to keep the Art room running smoothly.

Senior classes have had a big learning focus on the work of Modern, Contemporary and Abstract artists, looking especially at the work of Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein (Pop and Op art), Flower power art of the sixties and seventies. Activities have included, painting, folio design, collage and drawing and more abstract painting. Students have been introduced to the worlds of Street Art, Pavement Art, Mural Art, Public Art (e.g. Silo Artworks) and they have looked at the debate of

‘When is Street Art, Art ….and when does street art become Graffiti?

How do we define the two?

This topic has led to interesting discussions in the Art room.

Students have had a learning focus on the Artwork of Banksy, Rone, Keith Haring and others.

As a contrast to all the bright colours of Op art and Pop Art, Grade 5 students have produced black and white silhouette drawings of deciduous trees in Winter, incorporating collage and paint work.

A BIG thank you to our wonderful Artroom captains Elektra and

What are your plans for the planet?

Artist Olaf Breuning presents an adventure playground for kids to explore, be creative and share their point of view on their world. Throughout the exhibition, children can interact with animated drawings by the artist, create their own drawings, learn about the natural world, and read Olaf’s first book for kids while nestled in a reading nook.

This free exhibition is suitable for children of all ages, school groups and playgroups.

“I wish for children to take away refreshing thoughts with them, and be more motivated to make ‘plans for our planet’ – hopefully, good ones!

— Olaf Breuning
