BOOKWEEK AT OSHC

We’re always up for a themed week at OSHC so linking to Book week was perfect. Food is always our favourite place to start for a theme. Our menu for the week used 5 picture story books as inspiration: The Runaway Pancake, Tony Baroni Loves Macaroni, Tony and the Pizza Champions, The Bread Pet and Let’s Pop, Pop Popcorn. Recipes used in our cooking activities asked students to skewer strawberries and bananas to make Cat in a Hat fruit kebobs and Bruce Bogtrotters chocolate cake (from Roald Dahl’s Matilda) was turned into mini take home muffins.

Willy Wonka made a secret visit to the program and hid 5 golden tickets for children to find which created a hive of excitement. The hunt challenged children’s persistence and determination as no clues were provided. In the end only 4 were found. This then led to a student created Where’s Wally hunt as a follow up activity.

“What inspired me was seeing the happiness and determination between the students during the Golden ticket scavenger hunt” Maya M, one of the Where’s Wally hunt instigators.

Student’s made paper collage bookmarks, using scrap bits of paper to create their designs. These were then laminated for longevity. Using sponges, paint and an elephant outline, students were free to use their creativity to make their own Elmer the Elephant. Like the bookmarks, each one was different in design and no two alike but each one fabulous in their own way.

Tea Tuesday

By Felix & Sivan

Tea Tuesday is a fun activity where we make our own tea. We enjoy it because in the end we get a fun lesson as well as a tasty treat. We do have some conditions:

  1. The tea type has to be decided on the Monday before.
  2. The tea has to be voted by the tea team (students who want tea)
  3. No one can be left out.
  4. Caffeine free teas only
