Strings

Corelli Strings, Choir and Orchestra busy preparing for the Night of Music
Corelli Strings worked really hard in their rehearsal on Monday morning adding some polishing touches to their program of four pieces: “Scooter Ride”, “Lazy Sundays”, “Siberian Shivers” and “Russian Dance”.
Orchestra did lots of work with the metronome in their rehearsal on Wednesday morning to improve the tempo stability in their program of “Fury”, “Fantasy on a Japanese Folk Song” and “Endpin Rag”.
The Choir had a special rehearsal at lunchtime on Wednesday and has their final rehearsal on Friday morning. Their program of “This Pretty Planet” and “Count on Me” is sounding so joyful. We are very lucky to have choir director, Jennette Green, come in to work with our choristers. The choir rehearsed with recorded accompaniments until last week when we had the privilege of Jamie Kim coming in to play with us for the final three rehearsals. We have also had Charlie (6R) and Sean (6P) adding violin accompaniment.
The annual Night of Music concert is hosted by the Heidelberg Orchestras who kindly offer our school the opportunity to be part of this special concert in the wonderful venue of the Performing Arts Centre, Ivanhoe Girls Grammar School. The concert starts at 7pm this Saturday, 6th September. Tickets (almost sold out) are available from https://www.heidelbergsymphony.com.au/ Adults $28 / Child $14. (Performers don’t need a ticket)
Performers wear white on the top and black on the bottom. Each group has a short soundcheck before the concert which is an important chance to see the stage and test the sound:
- Choir please arrive at 4:50pm
- Orchestra please arrive at 5:30pm
- Corelli Strings please arrive at 5:55pm
Performers should bring:
- named water bottle
- food for the break between the soundcheck and the concert
- book, colouring activity, card game etc for the break between the soundcheck and the concert
When we ask Year 6 students for highlights of their time in the IPS String Program, the Night of Music always comes up. It is a very special evening: very exciting for the students and a wonderful opportunity for the families to be proud of their performers.
Thank you to Oscar (5B) for the poster artwork and Annelies for the poster design.
