To conclude our learning about line, colour and shapes in Visual Arts the children enjoyed making sculptures of fireworks. They twisted and bent a variety of coloured and patterned pipe cleaners to represent fireworks. These were then pushed into a piece of styrofoam which had been painted black like the night sky.
In Religion, Kindergarten have been learning about the stories of Moses' birth and King David from the Old Testament. They enjoyed retelling the story of Moses' birth using a storymap and cut out of baby Moses stuck to a paddlepop stick and hearing how David was brave enough to fight Goliath because he had God by his side to protect him. The children drew pictures of David as a shepherd (before he was annointed) and then as King of the Israelites.
A fun game of bowling to help us practise our subtraction skills.
Year 1 Prayer Service – The Ten Lepers
This week, our Year 1 students led us in a beautiful prayer service based on the Gospel story of The Ten Lepers. The children reminded us of the importance of saying “thank you” for the many blessings in our lives. Through prayer, scripture, and song, they encouraged us all to take time to show gratitude to God and to one another.
Science in Year 1 – Exploring Light and Shadows
In Science, Year 1 students explored the energy of light by using torches to experiment with shadow puppets. The children discovered how light travels in a straight line and how objects block light to form shadows. They had lots of fun creating different shapes and characters, noticing how moving the torch closer or further away changed the size of the shadow.
Religion
In Religion, we have come to the end of our 'Caring for All Creation' unit, where the students explored the beauty and diversity of creation and considered ways to take care of creation.
