Principal's Report

Dear families,

We have had a wonderful few weeks here at Rockhampton North Special School, with two very special visitors joining us recently. Both the QASEL President and our School Supervisor spent time walking through classrooms, and they were genuinely impressed by the high level of work being done by students and staff. They commented on the calm, settled atmosphere across the school and the minimal disruptions to learning – a real credit to the hard work and dedication of our school community.

A new initiative has also been introduced to signal the bell: the start of music. The feedback from our students has been beautiful – they say it makes them smile and feel happy as they move through their day. It is a simple change that has already created a positive impact.

As we move into the warmer months of Term 4, a reminder that all students must wear hats when outdoors. This is an important part of our SunSmart practices and helps keep everyone safe.

Looking ahead, we are all very excited about our Year 12 Graduation. It is always such a special milestone, and preparations are well underway. Our Student Council has also been working hard behind the scenes to prepare for R U OK? Day this Thursday. This day reminds us all of the importance of checking in with each other, asking “Are you OK?”, and supporting those who may be struggling. Thank you to our students for caring for one another and for strengthening our school community in this way.

Our Positive Behaviour Focus for the next two weeks is on Cooperation – specifically reminding ourselves that we do our work first and then we choose. This is a great way to build independence, responsibility, and teamwork.

As we come to the end of term, I want to share my heartfelt gratitude to all our students, staff, and families. Thank you for your support, your courage, and your care. It is because of this collective spirit that our school continues to thrive.

Kind Regards

Dehlia Dawson
