Principal's Report
Kaylene Kubeil
Eleven weeks have made for a long but awesome Term 2, and whilst we have loved every minute, I am sure that students (and teachers) are very much looking forward to a well-earned rest throughout the holiday break.
This week, we began to experience some disruptions due to the start of our Accessible Building grant. I would especially like to thank the Year 3/4 team as they have been impacted the most due to these works. Whilst this is causing some inconvenience and some of our students are worried about what is happening to our school, I have done my best to reassure them that when everything is complete, the school will look amazing and, more importantly, be far more accessible.
NAIDOC Week, which runs from July 6th to 13th (in the school holidays), will mark 50 years of celebrating and honouring Indigenous voices, culture, and resilience. The theme highlights the importance of honouring the legacies of past generations, empowering the next generation of leaders, and fostering a vision for a strong and vibrant future. The theme for NAIDOC Week 2025 is "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy". This theme celebrates the achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples while also looking forward to the future and the role of younger generations in shaping that future. At the school, we will acknowledge this week once we return for Term 3.
Why going to school is important...
Going to school every day is an essential part of your child’s education. Children and young people learn new things at school every day, connect with friends, have fun and develop good habits that help them to succeed. Attending and participating in school will help your child:
There is no good number of days for missing school. Being away from school for 1 day a fortnight adds up to missing four whole weeks of school a year. Where possible, you should avoid your child missing school. For example, make appointments for your child outside of school hours and keep family holidays outside of term time.
Please see our current school attendance rate information:
Lastly, I would like to acknowledge the very sad news that the Whittlesea community received this week regarding the sudden and unexpected passing of Ms Shan Peak, Assistant Principal at Whittlesea Secondary College.
Enjoy a wonderful holiday break,
Kaylene
