WOW!
Last year we read, 'My Mum' by Anthony Browne. We wondered about where Anthony got his idea for the pattern on the fabric that the mum wore in the story and we emailed him. We had completely forgot about the email, until the other day, when Sandra received his reply.
Dear Sandra,
I’m writing to apologise for not replying to your email. A couple of years ago, for some mysterious reason, we had an issue with our website provider and we stopped getting emails that were submitted via the website. We have now managed to retrieve them but have many to read through!
You asked about the inspiration for the floral pattern in My Mum. Anthony wanted to create a similar book to My Dad, where the pattern throughout the book was taken from his own father's dressing gown. In My Mum the pattern was loosely based on a floral design from one of Anthony's mother's dressing gowns.
I hope this was helpful and once again sorry for the huge delay in getting back to you!
Kind regards,
Anna Latham

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge
The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Sacred Heart Primary School is excited to be taking part. The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 and aims to help young readers develop a lifelong love of reading.
It is not a competition; it is a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 5th September, 2025. Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.
All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.
This year, the Challenge is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the theme ‘20 years of words and wonder’ and a year of special activities. For details, follow the Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge Facebook. Since it began in 2005, more than 4.5 million young readers have taken part and together read more than 63 million books!

It has been wonderful to see students bringing and using their library bags when borrowing books. This helps to keep our books safe and in good condition. Library bags are available for purchase at the uniform shop.
Thank you for supporting our love of reading at school.
Happy reading!
