Principal's Message

Dear Parents

I am thoroughly enjoying my time at MEPS and it has been great getting to know and familiarise myself with the school community.

Over the past term I have been getting to know staff and students and observing the wonderful teaching and learning programs at our school.

Staffing Update

Ashleigh Woods is currently on Maternity Leave and Lili Hawkins is teaching 3W.  Lili has settled in well and we are excited to have her as a staff member at MEPS.

Earlier this term we farewelled Keren Saxon who has taken leave for the remainder of the year.  Ebony Pascoe is doing a wonderful job in 5KS.  Updates on a teacher for Term 3 and 4 will be announced shortly.

AIP Mid-Year Monitoring

Every Victorian Government School has an Annual Implementation Plan outlining the teaching and learning focus for the year.  This plan is derived from the school strategic plan that was developed during the school review process in 2024.  At the mid-year stage schools are required to update their progress against their goals and actions. The following improvement strategies have been a focus:

  1. Embedding an agreed upon practice model aligned with the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0 (VTLM).  This is really exciting work and involves a whole school approach to teaching focused on the science of learning (how students learn best).  This involves significant professional learning for staff on the science of learning, reviewing our current teaching and learning model and implementing the new aspects of Victorian Curriculum 2.0 into our curriculum plans.

  2. Strengthening staff knowledge implementation of Big Six components of reading.  I have been blown away by the English program being delivered in classrooms throughout the school.  The implementation of evidence-based teaching through Jolly Phonics and Heggerty has been amazing to observe as has the support for students reading through MultiLit.  It will be exciting to see this develop in the future.

  3. Develop a school wide approach to fostering inclusive practices in classrooms.  This term we introduced our School Wide Positive Behaviour Token System.  This approach is aimed at teaching our students the positive behaviours that are expected of them.  Staff will be using positive management strategies to explicitly teach classroom expectations, rules, procedures and routines, ensuring we continue to have high expectations of students, students are ready to learn and the school is focused on academic achievement.

I look forward to working further with staff, students and families.

Kind Regards

Matt Tyndall,                                    Antoinette Di Ludovico                Beth Taylor
