Respectful Relationships

Year 3 - Respectful Relationships

In Year 3, students have been learning about positive coping

Positive Coping

As they grow and develop, children encounter situations where they feel worried, nervous, and sometimes even scared. Individuals manage these demands by using a range of coping strategies - some more effective than others. Helping students to learn and practise a variety of positive coping skills enables them to manage future changes and challenges more successfully.

Resilience research shows that positive self-talk is linked to greater persistence when facing difficulties, while negative self-talk is associated with higher levels of distress, depression, and anxiety. Positive self-talk involves realistic assessments of one's abilities and efforts, acknowledging personal strengths, and showing gratitude for the positives. In contrast, negative self-talk includes excessive self-blame, exaggeration of setbacks, and focusing only on what's going wrong. Fortunately, positive self-talk is a skill that can be taught and strengthened with practice.
