KITCHEN AND GARDEN PROGRAM FOR 2025!
Year 6 Garden
Our year 6 crew got busy working in their patches today. They weeded, removed pests, replanted failed or harvested crops then headed out to do some gardening. We had a couple of groups who worked on some FFF propagation and planted some lambs ear, fire pokers, rosemary, sage, violets and iris. We have heaps of goodies growing now in the hot house so keep your eyes out for planting ideas and start your fresh food fair shopping list.
Year 4
Our community art project is going well and our students worked on some design concepts and and images that we can include in our art piece. We hav foraged for natural products such as fakllen leaves and bark. We also painted texture and blended colours that can use used to make collage animals and landscape. On tuesday the weather allowed M19to get out in the garden and get some vital jobs done! We had a team dedicated to fixing some stinky compost bins and we commend them for their resiliance! We fed the worms, harvested jerusulem artichokes, weeded and cleaned up fallen autumn leaves.
Kitchen
We have had an exciting fortnight visiting Indonesia through food! With a range of Indonesian dishes underway, we had many teachers on yard duty commenting how great it smelt around the kitchen. The Mie Goreng and fritters were all devoured with no leftovers, but it was the coconut pancakes that unsurprisingly came out as the favourite dish of the day. The cooked salad of beans with coconut flavouring also surprised many of our salad-shy students who really enjoyed this different take on a salad.
Next fortnight we are staying closer to home with our Indigenous inspired menu. As the Years 6 complete their time in the Surfside Kitchen, they will also get to put all their kitchen skills to use as they battle it out in the Surfside Masterchef event.
All the recipes are below so get the kids to cook their favourite dish for your family on the weekend and send us some pics.clancey.mckenzie2@education.vic.gov.au
