Junior Learning Community

YEAR 2
We have been very busy in the Grade 2 learning space, getting ready for the end of term! Students and teachers had an amazing time at our Grade 1 and 2 Excursion last Friday. The students represented our school so respectfully and their big smiles all day showed what an amazing time was had!
In Grade 1 and 2 this week we have enjoyed learning about the weather, discussing the significance of weather in people's lives and in different places around the world. Students had fun creating freeze frames of what ‘Summer’ looks like on the beach (see pictures below). On the last day of term, we will be watching a movie to celebrate the end of term and the learning we have completed about Geography.
In Numeracy, we have been estimating and measuring the ‘mass’ and ‘capacity’ of different objects using informal units.
Students have enjoyed experimenting with a new style of writing, connecting their knowledge learnt from our Storybook Texts (The Turtle’s Song and Chooks in Dinner Suits), to construct an information report.
It has been a wonderful and very busy term of learning and fun – we are all looking forward to the break ahead and wish all of you a safe and warm holiday break.
YEAR 1
Excursion to Shepparton
Last Friday, we went on our excursion to Shepparton, where we visited Rebound and attended the performance Imagine! The students had a fun-filled day jumping around and enjoying a drama production based on the picture book Imagine by Alison Lester.
Mathematics
This week in Mathematics, students have been learning about time and duration—what makes something a short time versus a long time. They’ve had the opportunity to play games like charades, acting out examples such as brushing teeth (short time) and building a house (long time). We encourage you to continue these discussions at home by exploring different time frames together.
Literacy
In Literacy, students have continued learning about the bossy ‘e’ and how it changes vowel sounds in words. They’ve also been working on writing super sentences, identifying sentence fragments, and correctly using capital letters and full stops. We are reviewing many of the grammar and punctuation rules students have learned throughout the term.
Inquiry – Geography
As part of our Geography unit, students have been learning about weather—very fitting given the variety of weather we’ve been experiencing lately!
