Rubicon Camp - Term 3, Week 1
Twenty SRC students from Years 7 to 10 will be attending the Rubicon Leadership Camp at the Rubicon Outdoor School in Nayook, from the 21st to the 25th July. They will engage in activities such as kayaking, camping, bush walking and rafting, to build on their leadership skills. We look forward to updating you in the next newsletter with all of the details of this camp.
International Women's Day (IWD) Mural
Art Captains, Cheryl Chow and Ruby Decker, have been working closely with the Art Department to use the heart-shaped pieces of paper collected from Term 1 with IWD messages on them to design a mural for the school. All students across the school participated in this initiative in Term 1 where students were asked to write a message on a heart-shaped piece of paper about a woman in their lives that they appreciate and love. The mural will serve as a testament to our Respectful Relationships program and will reinforce PSC's commitment to promoting gender equality.
Student Engagement and School Wide Positive Behaviour (SWPB) Initiative
Sub-School Captains across Years 7-12, as well as our Student Engagement captains, will work closely with the Assistant Principal team and Sub-School leaders, to accelerate our current SWPB focus, Achieving Your Personal Best. These SRC students will take on more tangible roles to model expected behaviours and guide their peers to perform at their optimum academically and socially. Focus meeting groups have well and truly commenced with our Principal, Mr Smith, and Assistant Principals, Ms Logan and Ms Scheiwiller, where suggestions and brainstormed ideas have taken heed in Sub School assemblies and so forth. Sub School Captains will be responsible for circulating messages and reminders to their respective cohorts in the coming weeks (for example, Homework Club, SWPB reminders, etc.)
Community Connections and PACT Project
Our Community Connections Captains, Gracie Brooks and Ruby Vangeninden, are working with the PACT group in Terms 2 and 3 to reduce waste in our staff rooms across the school. The initiative involves collecting recycled containers that are suitable for compost waste to then later place a compost ‘bin’ in each staffroom. They are encouraging staff to be mindful of their waste-disposal habits and use the compost bins regularly. From then on, they will arrange a weekly, rotating roster (between SRC students and PACT students) to appropriately dispose waste from these containers into our very own compost bins on school grounds.
