Term 2 has been a fantastic term for our students involved in TAFE programs, with strong engagement across all areas and a wide range of impressive achievements.

In Hospitality, students have continued to impress with their skills in both theory and practical work. The canteen has been filled with the aroma of delicious student-made meals, including key lime pie, waffles, blueberry muffins, chicken risotto, schnitzel burgers, and a variety of drinks and milkshakes. The group has shown growing confidence in food preparation, service, and kitchen operations. A big thank you to Chris for his ongoing support and guidance in creating such a rich, hands-on learning environment for our students.

Outdoor Recreation has seen students take part in a range of hands-on activities, including bush walking, hikes and bike rides, supported by ongoing theory work. Simon and Josh have done an excellent job guiding students through teamwork-based experiences while building their understanding of outdoor education.

Our Hair Salon Assistant students have also had a strong term. I had the pleasure of being a client myself - Elliot showed great skill in washing and styling hair, Tanya has been developing her blow-drying and volume techniques, and Mia continues to show confidence with straightening. In Week 9, students ran a successful trial with Year 9 volunteers as clients, and Erin has led this space with care and professionalism.

In Visual Arts, students have been given the freedom to explore their own creative direction. Under Elsie’s guidance, Owen has created pieces he hopes to hang in his room, Jesse and Daniel have been working on large-scale spray-painting projects on the basketball courts, and Liv and Layla have been producing thoughtful and detailed drawings and paintings. Bella’s anatomical sketching, Amelia’s developing painting, and Caitlin’s current sewing project all show the incredible range of talent across this group.

Music continues to be a thriving space at KCHS. Students working on their Certificate II have remained highly engaged, collaborating on original songs and building their performance and production skills. They also continued with the SongMakers program at the start of the term, further developing their songwriting and industry knowledge. A special thanks to Simon, Josh, Ava and Mia for their ongoing leadership and support in this area.

We are incredibly proud of the commitment, creativity and effort shown by all students participating in our TAFE programs. Their passion for learning and their growth across a range of skills has been a true highlight of the term.
