Term 2 has been full and rewarding for the senior cohort, with heaps of exciting learning, leadership, and future pathways work happening across the board.

Wendy from the City LLEN, along with Marie, have been checking in regularly with our Year 11 and 12 students (and some Year 10s) to help them lock in work experience placements. It’s been awesome seeing students start to map out where they want to go and who can support them to get there.

A huge highlight was seeing Yacob, Rianna, Bailey, Lara and Bella represent KCHS at the Variety Leadership Program in the city. It ran over two days and was all about leadership, confidence and connection. Rhys and I were lucky enough to attend the final ceremony where our students were awarded certificates - we were beyond proud!

We also took our Year 11 and 12s to the Careers Expo at the Showgrounds, with over 130 exhibitors! Students were buzzing with ideas and questions about what’s next after school. Another standout moment was Project4Hope: Illuminate Your Path, where students worked through real-life scenarios and then created their own personal action plans. They had to really think about their “why” and what supports or steps they’ll need to reach their goals.

Our Year 11 students also showed incredible initiative this term by organising and fundraising for Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, raising money for the Cancer Council. It was a fantastic effort that brought staff and students together for a meaningful cause.

I was thrilled to once again organise the Trade & Tech Fit Expo this term for female and gender diverse students from Years 7–12. Now in its second year, it continues to be a standout event - our students absolutely lived out our CARES values on the day and represented our school with pride.

A big shoutout to our Year 12s who sat the GAT at Mount Alexander College - you showed real commitment, and I’m genuinely so proud of every one of you who showed up and gave it a go.

Another feel-good moment: we had Frank Dinoto on behalf of our local MP come to assembly to present Zack (Year 11) with 15 fishing rods after a letter he wrote earlier this year. Seeing that recognition happen in front of the school was super special!

In class, there’s been some great learning happening:

Year 11 & 12:

• In Numeracy, students have been designing their own tiny homes – showing off incredible creativity and problem-solving skills.
• In Literacy, they’ve been producing podcasts on topics they care deeply about – with strong opinions and plenty of personality coming through.
• In PD and Work-Related Skills, the focus has been on leadership, communication and teamwork – essential skills for life beyond school.

Year 10:

• In Maths, students are gearing up for their Probability Carnival – lots of fun, games and strategy involved!
• In Literacy, they’ve been diving into creative writing, developing original stories and experimenting with style.
• In Food Tech, delicious dishes are being brought to life, and in Media, students have been making their own commercials – with plenty of creativity and flair on display.
