Challenge Based Learning (CBL)
Students have stepped into the newsroom this week as young journalists! They are creating Behind the News-style reports on the waves of migration to Australia. Through this project, they aim to take action by promoting community awareness of diversity—a powerful way to connect learning with real-world impact.
Literacy
We have wrapped up our novel study of Storm Boy and are now turning our attention to the film adaptation. Students will compare the book and the movie, exploring how characters and settings are portrayed differently, and reflecting on their personal preferences.
Please grant movie viewing permission via Sentral as soon as possible!
In writing, we are shifting into persuasive texts. Linking with Storm Boy, students will participate in a debate and write arguments for or against duck hunting—a great way to build critical thinking and persuasive techniques.
Mathematics
Our focus remains on subtraction, especially understanding how it relates to addition and solving worded and missing number problems.Next, we’ll dive into money maths. Students will practise using online shopping platforms and catalogues to cost out ingredients for a recipe—an engaging, real-life application of their numeracy skills!
Wellbeing
In Respectful Relationships, we are exploring strategies for Taming Angry Feelings. Students are learning how to recognise strong emotions and stay in control using helpful techniques.
For Cyber Safety, our focus is on My Character Profile. We’re examining how our online actions may influence student's integrity in both positive and negative ways.
