Confraternity Shield – Mr Jack Rix

St Augustine’s First XIII travelled to Rockhampton over the holidays to compete in the annual Confraternity Shield. Saints got off to a strong start with a 20–6 win over St Peter Claver. Following this, the boys had to back up and play against one of the competition favourites, Padua College. After a tightly contested first half, in which Saints led 10–6, Padua showed why they were considered title contenders and finished the game with a 34–10 win.

After a tough loss on Day 1, the boys bounced back and came out victorious, thanks to Xavier Lallemand's hat-trick, defeating Emmaus College, Rockhampton 22–6. This win propelled Saints into contention for a potential top-four finish.  However, Saints were matched with host team, The Cathedral College (TCC). Saints battled hard and hit the lead first, but after a  strong second half TCC emerged victorious, 15–10. Unfortunately, this loss meant Saints would now play for positions 5–8.

After a day off, Saints faced Ignatius Park in a back-and-forth encounter. Two disallowed tries cost the team dearly, giving Ignatius Park the momentum to secure a 30–12 win.

This set up a final match for 7th and 8th place against Iona College. Fortunately, the boys finished their carnival on a high, securing a dominant 38–8 win. Concluding their 2025 Confraternity campaign in 7th place.

At the closing ceremony, several awards were presented. Cayde Miller was named Saints' Best and Fairest, while Cooper Meares received the Spirit of Confraternity award. A special mention goes to Cayde, who was also selected for the Queensland Confraternity Merit Team. In addition, Ben Walker was honoured as the Player with the Most Promise across the entire competition – a huge achievement.

The First XIII team were also awarded the Spirit of Confraternity Trophy, a reflection of the outstanding way the boys carried themselves on and off the field.

A big thank you to Mr Kris O’Farrell for his coaching and leadership, Mr Matthew Di Salvo and Mr James Will for their organisation, Mr Pat Connell for keeping the team well-fed, and Mr Jason Vant for his support with travel logistics.

Senior Volleyball Schools Cup - Manager Mr Shawn Moote

We sent two senior teams to the FNQ Volleyball Schools Cup hosted at Smithfield SHS.  It was a well attended affair, with 20 teams from 17 different schools competing.

Both teams were placed in the same pool and our A-team showed great success winning every set in the initial rounds.  We then faced a strong side from St Mary’s and devastatingly went down in the third and final set in a tie-break.  St Mary’s went on to win the competition, so it was a proud effort from the Saints side.

Bill Turner Football - Manager Mr Jon Sorensen

Our Bill Turner Football squad has once again done us proud with another strong season. The team kicked off their campaign at the Gala Day hosted by Marlin Coast Football Club, delivering excellent performances with wins over Good Counsel Catholic College, St Andrew’s Catholic College, Trinity Bay State High School and Trinity Anglican School.

Their momentum carried them into the hotly contested regional final against Cairns State High School. In a thrilling match, the scores were locked at 1-1 at the end of full time. Despite a determined effort, Cairns High found the winning goal in extra time. Throughout the season, our squad demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and embodied the College’s sporting values – remaining humble in victory and gracious in defeat.

A massive thank you goes out to our generous sponsors for their continued support of our football program.

Senior Cricket – Mr Heath McKenzie

Saints impress in T20 win over St Andrew’s

St Augustine’s College produced a strong team performance in their recent T20 match against St Andrew’s Catholic College, posting 180 runs before bowling out St Andrew's for 29.

Charlie Lawrence was outstanding at the top of the order, compiling a composed and powerful 106, with valuable support from Lucas Brierley, who added 36. Their partnership laid a solid foundation for the Saints’ innings.

With the ball, Saints maintained consistent pressure. Patrick Spillane was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 11, while Thomas King and Xavier Curtin both chipped in with tidy spells, each taking 2 for 4.

It was a well-rounded performance from Saints, who will take confidence from the result as they continue to build momentum this season.

Junior Cricket

St Augustine’s Intermediate Cricket team kicked off their season in commanding fashion with a dominant performance against St Andrew’s Catholic College. Bowling first, Saints delivered a disciplined and economical display, restricting St Andrew’s to just 5/51 from their 20 overs. All ten bowlers contributed effectively, keeping the pressure on throughout the innings. Wicket-takers included Jasper Creighton (1/7), Kaden McDonough (1/9), Brodie Masina (1/8), Finn Watson (1/3), and Saksham Handa (1/6).

In reply, St Augustine’s chased down the target with composure and control. The batting line-up showed depth and patience, led by solid contributions from Edward Hammerton (16), Hudson Croxford (23* retired), Brodie Masina (20), Jasper Creighton (12* retired), and Logan Broderick (17*). A late flourish from Yug Joshi helped push Saints to a total of 115 from their 20 overs, securing a strong opening win.
