Leaving a Legacy: Totems by Visual Arts in Practice (VARIPA) Students

As part of the C1 and 2 Clients unit, the Year 11 and 12 VARIPA boys have installed their totems in the Year 7 Quad. They completed their totems last term and cemented them in place in Week 10. It will be their legacy and a representation of culture, the three violets and nature. Please take a walk through the Year 7 Quad and check out their amazing work.

A Term Full of Creative Energy

This term is jam-packed with events for the Art Department. We are bringing a lot of energy into the art rooms this term, with many classes working with ceramics. Year 7 students continue to create symbolic animals, Year 9s are focusing on creating vessels that celebrate the rainforest and reef,  and Year 10 gents are creating personally symbolic objects.

Speaking of energy – we have a full schedule ahead. Some parents have enrolled their sons in the Griffith University/Queensland College of Art weekend workshop from 1-3 August, and we thank you for your support. Preparations are in full swing as we prepare to host our first ever Gallery on the Greens Exhibition on 21 August, between 5 and 7pm. We look forward to showcasing the wide range of talent and hard work that the boys have put in over the year.

We will also be entering some student work into the prestigious Energy Exhibition, which showcases the best student artworks for senior students from across the region. That exhibition will run from 13 September to 5 October, with the official launch and awards presentation on Friday 19 September.

Drama - Transformations of Plays

The Drama Department is exploring the transformation of plays for a modern audience. Years 10, 11 and 12 students are learning how to create a directorial vision for Shakespearean plays to reimagine them for contemporary audiences. They are all working exceptionally well.

In particular we want to wish our Year 12s nothing but the best as they move through their last internal assessment for Drama. Then it will be nothing but preparation for the external exam. We wish them well and know that they will all perform beautifully in performance and theory.
