CHS Touch Tournament Championships

Congratulations to the five GIHS girls — Mary Arandale, Mylie Doust, Ella Bruce, Billie James and Grace Rossington-Taylor — who are competing in the CHS Touch Tournament Championships, playing against the top teams from across NSW.

They had a strong first day and, together with their wonderful teammates, have been playing impressively from Game One onwards. With another hectic schedule ahead, we wish them all the very best and hope they continue to enjoy the entire experience while showcasing their talent, determination and teamwork.

Good luck, girls — you are doing yourselves, your families, GIHS and the wider community proud.

Glen Innes High School Shines at New England Rugby Union 7s Carnival

Glen Innes High School proudly fielded teams in five of the six age divisions at the recent New England Rugby Union 7s Carnival in Armidale, with all teams demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship, determination and skill throughout the day.

The Under 14 Girls were one of the standout teams of the carnival. Combining excellent physicality with impressive attacking flair and strong defensive organisation, the girls proving their dominance throughout the competition. Their hard work culminated in a well-deserved victory over NEGS in the Grand Final, securing the tournament title for a second year in a row and showcasing the bright future of girls' rugby at Glen Innes High School.

The Under 14 Boys faced some tough opposition throughout the day but showed remarkable improvement with each match they played. Their persistence and willingness to learn were rewarded with a strong performance and a well-earned victory in their final game of the tournament.

The Under 16 Boys competed strongly against quality opposition and were right up there among the most competitive teams in their division, especially considering some of the other teams play rugby union on a regular basis. After progressing to the semi-finals, they narrowly went down to TAS in a closely contested match, falling just short of a place in the final.

Due to lower player numbers, both the Opens Girls and Opens Boys teams combined with students from other schools throughout the carnival. The Opens Girls showed great determination and teamwork despite the challenges of playing with different teammates, and their consistent effort and skill saw them finish the day as tournament winners. The Opens Boys joined forces with players from O'Connor Catholic College and quickly developed into a strong and competitive side, proving difficult for opposition teams to match throughout the day.

Congratulations to all players who represented Glen Innes High School. Every team displayed excellent sportsmanship, commitment and a willingness to learn more about the great game of Rugby Union. The experience gained throughout the carnival will undoubtedly benefit the players as they continue to develop their skills and understanding of the sport.

Well done to everyone involved on a fantastic day of rugby, and also a big thank you to Ali Crossley and Ms Bell for your help throughout the day.
