Principals Report

As we approach the end of another fantastic term, there is certainly plenty to celebrate at Glen Innes High School!

Before anything else, we have some very exciting news from our school farm. Our much-loved mumma pig, Annie, has welcomed four adorable piglets into the world! They have already become the stars of the farm, delighting students and staff alike with their playful personalities. We can't wait to watch them grow and become a special part of our agricultural program.

One of the highlights of the past fortnight was our Great Glen Innes High School Lego Challenge, a High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) event that brought together 20 primary school students and 20 Glen Innes High School students for a day filled with collaboration, creativity and problem-solving.

Students worked in mixed teams to complete a range of exciting STEM and design challenges that required communication, teamwork and innovative thinking. A standout activity challenged students to design and construct a vehicle powered solely by a balloon. It was incredible to watch teams test, refine and improve their designs as they explored the principles of force, motion and engineering. Students also took part in speed-building challenges, where they raced against the clock to solve complex construction tasks, alongside creative design challenges that encouraged them to think outside the box and transform simple materials into imaginative solutions. The enthusiasm, resilience and teamwork displayed throughout the day were outstanding, and it was wonderful to see students building new friendships while embracing every challenge.

A huge thank you goes to our partner primary schools and to the many parents and carers who nominated students for our 2027 Extension Class. We have been overwhelmed by the number of nominations received. Our selection panel has now met, and families should receive their letters of offer this week. Thank you to everyone who supported this process. We are excited to begin working with these students next year while continuing our commitment to providing opportunities that allow every student at Glen Innes High School to achieve success and reach their full potential.

Next week we proudly celebrate NAIDOC Week, an important opportunity to recognise and celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We warmly invite our community to join us for our NAIDOC Assembly on Monday, where we will come together to strengthen relationships, celebrate culture and acknowledge the contributions of our First Nations community. On Tuesday evening, we look forward to our annual Deadly Awards, recognising and celebrating the achievements, leadership and success of our First Nations students. These events

are always a highlight of our school calendar, and we encourage our community to celebrate alongside us.

Education Week is also fast approaching, with the 2026 theme "Inspiring Excellence." We are excited to have a jam-packed week of activities that showcase the outstanding learning, creativity and achievements of our students while celebrating the strength of public education. Please keep an eye on our communication channels for further information about the exciting events and celebrations planned.

As we conclude the term on Friday 3 July, I would like to thank our students, staff, families and community for their continued support throughout what has been another busy and rewarding term. I wish everyone a safe, happy and restorative holiday break and look forward to welcoming students back for the beginning of Term 3 on Tuesday 21 July.

Have a wonderful break, and thank you for being part of the Glen Innes High School community.
