Earlier this term, the State Government announced updates to the Digital Learning Policy. After careful consideration of these changes and further consultation with the School Council, we have decided to continue to offer and encourage Grade 4, 2026 families to participate in a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Laptop Program that will run in Grade 4, 5 and 6 for those students.

Grade 5 and Grade 6, 2026 students also have the option to use a laptop at school from 2026. If you have already made arrangements for your child to use an iPad in 2026, please be assured we will continue to accommodate iPads for those students.

From 2027, as per the new Digital Learning Policy, Digital Learning: Policy students entering into Grade 4 will not be able to participate in a BYOD Program. Instead, the school will provide students access to a laptop device at certain times throughout the school day to undertake learning with the assistance of a digital device. The decision to introduce laptops will:

  • Enhance student learning outcomes: Laptops enable students to research, create, and collaborate in dynamic ways—designing presentations, analysing data, and working together on shared digital projects that deepen their understanding of the curriculum.

  • Prepare students for the future: These experiences build essential digital literacy, communication, and problem-solving skills that prepare students for the expectations of secondary school and the modern workplace.

Students in Prep to Grade 3 will continue to access iPads provided by the school to enhance their learning. In Prep to Grade 3, students will use the device only when it is essential to learn about and with digital technologies as set out in the Victorian Curriculum.

As part of this process, the school has engaged LWT to provide families with an easy and reliable option to purchase a suitable device. Families are, however, welcome to purchase a laptop from another provider or use an existing device they already own. As mentioned previously, if you have already made arrangements for your child to use an iPad in 2026, please be assured we will continue to support students using an iPad.

Why LWT?

LWT is one of the largest education IT resellers in Australia and has over 20 years of experience providing and supporting devices sold into schools. Products differ from those available in retail stores, as they are generally more robust and selected for their compatibility to ICT infrastructure and curriculum. With their bulk buying power and access to special education pricing, they can provide the right products at the best pricing.

The school has liaised with LWT to give 2026, Grade 4, 5 and 6 families a selection of three recommended devices at different price points. The three devices are from the Lenovo range. The Lenovo devices are very popular for several reasons in the primary and secondary school setting.
