As we approach another assessment period, I would like to take this opportunity to provide some further information regarding the new Mathematics Curriculum 2.0 and end of year Semester Reports:
Your child/s Semester 1 report contained a single overall achievement score within mathematics. This achievement score showed no comparison or achievement growth to their previous learning as this was assessed against the previous mathematics curriculum. It also included a 5-point scale highlighting their understanding of the 5 strands (Foundation – Grade 2) or 6 strands (Grade 3 – Grade 6) within the new mathematics Victorian Curriculum 2.0. The 6 strands include:
Probability (probability is not included in the Victorian curriculum until Grade 3)
This scale reflected their learning only from what was explicitly taught in Semester 1. The scale is not intended to show any form of achievement growth.
The report also contained a series of ‘Typically Statements’. This is designed to highlight the skills, knowledge and learning that is involved within each strand of mathematics. It is important to note, that the typically statements are not intended to show what the student has achieved within that semester.
Foundation – Grade 2 Reporting Example (Semester 1):

Grade 3 – Grade 6 Reporting Example (Semester 1):

Semester 2 Reports:
In December your child/ren will receive their Semester 2 Report containing the same overall achievement score for Mathematics, 5-point scale and typically statement. If applicable, it will show achievement growth compared to what they have achieved in Semester 1. It will still include the 5-point scale highlighting their understanding of what has been explicitly taught in Semester 2. The 5-point scale will not show any form of achievement growth.
For further information, refer to the department’s policy on Reporting Student Achievement and Progress – Foundation to 10.
If you have any queries about your child’s report, please contact the school.
