As we begin the 2026 school year, I would like to warmly welcome our Woodmans Hill Secondary College community back for what promises to be another exciting year of learning and growth.
It was wonderful to see so many families at our return to school Parent, Teacher Student Conferences meetings in January. Thank you to those who were able to attend. These conversations are such an important part of our partnership with families, and it was lovely to reconnect after the summer break. The opportunity to come together, share goals, celebrate progress and strengthen our communication sets a positive tone for the year ahead.
It has already been a busy and productive start to the term. Our staff have been working collaboratively to further strengthen consistency across the school, with a particular focus on implementing a common ‘call to attention’ in every classroom.
This shared approach is grounded in research demonstrating that consistent routines reduce cognitive load for students. When expectations and responses are predictable, students can focus their mental energy on learning rather than navigating differing classroom systems. A consistent call to attention across all classrooms creates:
Predictability and psychological safety
A shared language for learning
Smoother transitions between activities
Greater instructional time
As a school-wide positive behaviour school, with Respect as one of our core values, creating calm, consistent and predictable learning environments is essential. This work supports both staff and students and strengthens our collective commitment to high expectations and supportive classrooms.
This term, students will also participate in the Resilient Youth Survey. This anonymous survey provides valuable insight into the wellbeing of our student population. Importantly, it allows us to identify trends, strengths and areas for growth across year levels and cohorts.
The data gathered helps us to:
Target specific areas in our wellbeing programs
Strengthen protective factors for young people
Respond proactively to emerging needs
Continue building a safe, connected and supportive school environment
Student voice is central to our work. The insights gained from this survey will directly inform the development of wellbeing initiatives, Home Group focus areas and broader school planning.
2026 is shaping up to be a year grounded in connection, consistency and care. Through strong partnerships with families, a shared and predictable learning environment, and a clear focus on student wellbeing, we are well positioned to support every young person at Woodmans Hill Secondary College to thrive.
Thank you for your ongoing support. We look forward to working alongside you throughout the year.
