Leadership Report

Dear Families,
This week began with a very special milestone—our first transition visit for the students who will be starting school in 2026. It was wonderful to see our Year 5 students step so confidently into their leadership roles, welcoming our newest learners with warmth and enthusiasm. Their patience and kindness helped the children—and their parents—feel more at ease during what can be an emotional experience.
As many of you know, transitions often bring a mix of excitement, curiosity, and a touch of apprehension. These feelings are completely natural. To support children as they navigate the end-of-year changes and prepare for new beginnings, here are a few helpful strategies:
Supporting Children Through Transitions
Acknowledge Emotions - Use simple, reassuring language to help children recognise and name their feelings. Validating their emotions encourages them to express themselves openly and feel understood.
Create Meaningful Goodbyes - Whether it’s saying farewell to a teacher, classroom, or routine, help children do so in a way that feels personal and positive. This sense of closure is important for their emotional wellbeing.
Celebrate Growth - Look back together on the year’s achievements—big and small. A “Year in Review” activity can be a wonderful reminder of how much they’ve learnt and grown.
Maintain Consistent Routines - Predictable bedtimes, mealtimes, and playtimes provide stability, helping children feel secure during periods of change.
Encourage Calming Activities - Gentle play, reading, drawing, or quiet time after school can help children unwind and process their day.
Use Visual Supports - Tools such as visual timers, simple charts, or transition songs can help children understand what’s coming next and ease moments of uncertainty.
Model Emotional Regulation - Children learn from what they see. Demonstrating calm communication and empathy shows them how to manage stress in healthy ways.
Prepare for What’s Ahead - Talk with children about what to expect next year—new classrooms, teachers, or routines. Familiarity helps reduce anxiety.
By incorporating these strategies, parents and caregivers can help children approach transitions with confidence and resilience, ensuring a smoother and more positive experience as they move into the next stage of their schooling.
End-of-Year Celebrations
As we approach the final weeks of the school year, we are looking forward to a number of special events, including our school concert, Graduation ceremony, and final whole-school assembly. These occasions provide meaningful opportunities for us to come together as a community, reflect on the year, and celebrate the achievements of our students.
We look forward to celebrating with you and sharing in the joy of these moments.
Warm regards,
Daniela Lawlor
Deputy Principal
