Backflips Against Bullying

On Monday, 3 August, our students attended an exciting, high-energy performance by Backflips Against Bullying, a renowned program featured on Channel 9’s Today Show. The team used incredible acrobatics and parkour to capture students' attention while delivering critical lessons on school culture and safety.
The interactive session covered vital topics, including:
Empowering the Bystander: Turning onlookers into helpful "upstanders."
Exit Strategies: Safe, non-violent ways for students to leave challenging situations, e.g stay calm and kind.
Social Exclusion: Understanding the hidden harm of leaving others out.
Retaliation Risks: Why fighting back makes situations worse. Rather, stop someone being mean to you by using words as your ‘superpower ’.
Whole-School Action: Building a united, supportive community.
Our students left the session energised and equipped with practical tools to look out for one another and keep our school a safe, welcoming place.
Reflection from members of the St John's Child Safe Team
'If people are being mean to you, you should ignore it. If it happens over and over, you need to tell a trusted adult'. - Lucy
'Tell a teacher if someone keeps following you and saying swear words'. - Caden
'If someone says something mean, you should stay calm and kind'. - Evie
'We shouldn't leave people out because it makes people feel sad. Be an upstander so you can help other people stop being bullied'. - Maeve
Proudly supporting Bullying No Way: National week of action
This year St John's will be participating in the Bullying No Way: National Week of Action, 17 to 21 August 2026.
Students are invited to 'wear a pop of purple' on Monday 17th August.
Purple is the Bullying No Way hero colour. It represents peace, strength and empowerment to take a stand against bullying behaviour.
Bullying No Way Week is a commitment being made by thousands of schools and supporters across the country. It provides an opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to bullying prevention. It allows us to connect with students, staff and school communities to implement workable solutions to prevent bullying.
The theme for this year's campaign is Small Acts, Big Impact.
It takes a community to address bullying behaviours, within and beyond the school gate.
Students can make a big impact through small acts of kindness and support for others being bullied. Trusted adults are there to guide children and young people as they learn how small, thoughtful actions can create a positive difference and encourage reporting of bullying.
This Bullying No Way Week, we’re encouraging you to embrace the theme Small Acts, Big Impact. Show kindness, support others and take meaningful steps to stand up against bullying.
