Acting Principal's Message

Dear St John's Community,

Between the sunshine and the rain, we have had a busy couple of weeks at St John's. On Monday, our students enjoyed an energetic, highly acrobatic presentation centred on bullying prevention. Interactive incursions like this play a vital role in our wellbeing and child safety programs, delivering key safety messages in a dynamic way that complements classroom learning.

At St John's, one of our primary playground challenges involves physical contact—such as pushing, grabbing, kicking and pulling—which leads to unnecessary injuries and hurt feelings. Verbal unkindness, including name-calling, is equally unacceptable. To reinforce a positive school culture, we consistently guide our students back to our core message: "Kind words, kind actions."

We encourage you to echo this conversation at home, helping us build a safe, respectful environment for every child.

Supporting our staff while planning for the future

Currently, all Catholic schools are working through planning and budgeting activities for 2027 to ensure we are well placed to support our staff, students and school communities in the coming year. This includes looking at how we can accommodate the changes likely to flow from a new Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA) with school staff.

We recognise the significant financial pressures many households are facing, and we are making a conscious effort to ensure these costs are not passed on through significant fee increases.

We will continue to keep our parent community informed throughout this process. As always, our focus remains on maintaining  strong school community and continuing to deliver a high-quality Catholic education for every student.

NAPLAN 2026

With the release of the 2026 NAPLAN results across Australia this week, we are thrilled to celebrate exceptional achievements at St John's. Our Year 3 and Year 5 students have achieved our strongest academic growth in over four years—a direct testament to their hard work and our school's commitment to educational excellence.

Key Highlights

  • Year 5 Excellence: Achieved our highest results in Writing, Spelling, and Numeracy since before the pandemic.
  • Year 3 Success: Delivered our strongest outcomes in Spelling, Grammar, and Punctuation in over four years.

These outstanding results reflect the dedicated efforts of our Learning Leaders and teaching staff, who continuously refine classroom practice using proven, research-backed approaches to learning. Congratulations to our students and staff on this remarkable milestone!

Working Bee

A big thank you to our amazing families who came out on a cold Thursday afternoon to help at the Working Bee. The students had so much fun playing together whilst the parents put in back-breaking effort to move two huge piles of mulch to distribute onto the garden beds. Others had fun blowing and collecting autumn leaf litter from around the school. The mower was roaring up the back of the school, and gutters got a much needed clean-out. The grounds are starting to look tidier, and more improvements should become evident over the next few weeks.

Jayne Street Playground

Works are nearly complete on the new border around the Jayne Street Adventure Playground. The old border had begun to present as a safety risk, with rotten and broken pieces making it unsafe for our students.

Over the holidays, the retaining wall sloping down towards the staffroom and Grade 1/2 classroom was also replaced due to safety concerns.

"Being 'one in Christ' calls us to keep our gaze fixed on the Lord, so that he may truly be at the center of our lives and communities, the center of every word, action and interpersonal relationship, leading us to say with amazement: 'It is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me.'" | Pope Leo XIV

Kind regards,

Maree Summers
