Assistant Principals' Report
From Monday 17 to Friday 21 August, RGLPS will take part in Bullying No Way Week, Australia’s national initiative for bullying prevention. This year’s theme, Small Acts, Big Impact, reminds us that simple actions—such as including someone, speaking up and showing kindness—can help create a safe and respectful community where everyone belongs.
Throughout the week, we will share a different message each day:
- Day 1: Small acts matter: Words and actions
- Day 2: Kindness creates impact, even in the tiny moments
- Day 3: You have the power to make things better
- Day 4: Pause before you speak, text or post online
Day 5: Together, our small actions create big change
Students will also participate in lessons during their regular Wellbeing sessions to build their understanding of bullying and explore ways to promote kindness, inclusion and respectful relationships.
The Australian Government’s Bullying No Way website provides updated, evidence-informed information to help families understand, prevent and respond to bullying.
We encourage families to continue these conversations at home and remind children that small, thoughtful actions can make a meaningful difference.
Grade 4 Writing
I love visiting classrooms and sending time reading the work that our students are doing each week. There is so much amazing writing happening in all classrooms, and this week I'd love to share some of the work from the Year 4 cohort.
The students in Year 4 have been developing their understanding of how writers build suspense and keep readers engaged. They have practised using descriptive language, showing emotions rather than simply telling the reader, varying sentence lengths for effect and creating tension through carefully chosen details. Students have applied these techniques to their own writing, learning how to end a piece with a cliffhanger that leaves the reader wanting to know what happens next.
