Engagement Leader Report

It has been a very busy start (to the always hectic) Term 3! Students have had an amazing start to Semester 2.

To kick off the term in week 2 - we recognised the commitment and dedication of students in year levels at our Year Level Awards Assemblies. Award categories were: Highest Achiever for each subject, Domain Awards, House Awards (Purpose and Curiosity), Homesteader Award and the Principal’s Award (to celebrate the highest overall academic excellence within each cohort). We hope many students aspire to achieve great results in Semester 2 and look forward to celebrating more students’  later this year for our Semester 2 awards assemblies. 

As our College continues to grow - we are excited to officially congratulate and introduce our newest members of our Engagement Team.

The remainder of this term sees Years 10 and 11 choosing/ finalising subjects for next year through course counselling; with Year 12s will be finishing up their subject content and begin preparing for Trial Exams (running in the last two days of term and into the first week of holidays). Term 3 will continue to be a busy one for all year levels but hopefully a positive and memorable one.

Year 10 Report

It has been an exciting and rewarding start to Semester 2, with our Year 10 students continuing to demonstrate the qualities that make our college community so special.

Our Semester 1 Awards Ceremony was a wonderful celebration of student achievement, recognising the hard work, commitment and perseverance shown throughout the first half of the year. Congratulations to every student who received an award, You should be incredibly proud of your efforts. I would also like to commend our entire Year 10 cohort for the outstanding respect and maturity they displayed throughout the ceremony. Their positive behaviour and support for one another created a memorable occasion and reflected the values we strive to uphold every day at Homestead.

Looking ahead, we are excited for our Year 10 students to attend the live performance of “Macbeth” on Monday, 10 August.  Experiencing Shakespeare performed on stage is a fantastic opportunity to enrich classroom learning and bring one of literature's most influential texts to life in an engaging and meaningful way.

Our celebrations continue with Book Week Dress Up Day on Friday, 14 August. We encourage all students and staff to get involved, dress as their favourite literary characters, and enjoy a day that celebrates imagination, creativity and the power of storytelling.

A significant milestone has also been reached with the completion of our Year 11 Course Counselling Interviews. It was wonderful to see students thoughtfully exploring their interests, strengths and future aspirations. These conversations represent much more than subject selection, they are the beginning of each student's pathway beyond Year 10 and an exciting step towards achieving their personal goals.

As students settle into their Semester 2 classes, our focus turns to one of Homestead's core values: Innovation. Innovation is about embracing curiosity, thinking creatively, challenging ourselves and approaching learning with an open mind. Whether students are exploring new ideas in the classroom, solving complex problems or developing practical skills, innovation empowers them to grow with confidence and prepare for an ever-changing world.

We look forward to another successful semester filled with learning, opportunity and achievement. Thank you to our students, families and staff for your ongoing support in making our Year 10 community one that continues to thrive. Here's to an exciting Semester 2 ahead!

Year 11 Report

Term 3 has been off to a fantastic start, and we are incredibly proud of the positive way our Year 11 students have settled back into school life.

Earlier this term, locker checks were completed, and we would like to thank students for their cooperation and organisation throughout the process. Taking pride in our shared spaces helps create a safe, respectful and welcoming environment for everyone.

We have also been delighted with the excellent standard of uniform across the Year 11 cohort. Students have represented the school with pride, and we sincerely thank families for their continued support in helping maintain these high expectations.

One of the highlights of the term was our Awards Assembly, which was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the many achievements of our students. Congratulations to all award recipients on their well-deserved recognition. Whether for academic success, leadership, or contributions to the school community, every award reflected the hard work, determination and commitment shown by our students.

Another exciting event this term was Careers Day, which was a great success. Our Year 11 students embraced the opportunity to participate in a range of activities, and begin thinking more deeply about their future pathways. Their enthusiasm and positive participation throughout the day were wonderful to see.

Course Counselling has also taken place this term, giving students the opportunity to begin planning for their final year of school. These conversations are an important step in helping students explore their interests, strengths and future pathways. We encourage families to continue discussing these options together at home as students make decisions about their future studies.

Thank you to our Year 11 students for the enthusiasm, maturity and positive attitude they have shown throughout the term so far. We look forward to seeing them continue to grow, embrace new opportunities and make the most of everything Term 3 has to offer.

Year 12 Report

Term 3 has been a busy and exciting time for our Year 12 students as they continue working towards the completion of their final year of secondary school. With Unit 4 now underway, students have quickly settled into their coursework and have already begun completing their first School Assessed Coursework (SAC) tasks. We encourage all students to remain organised, seek support when needed and continue developing consistent study habits as they prepare for the months ahead.

A highlight of the term was our annual Careers Day, where students had the opportunity to participate in a range of informative sessions to support their future pathways. Representatives from Deakin University visited the school to speak with students about tertiary study, university life and future opportunities. Throughout the remainder of the term, we also have a number of universities visiting during lunchtime sessions in the lecture theatre, giving students further opportunities to explore their post-school options. Students are encouraged to keep an eye on the posters displayed around the school for upcoming dates and sessions.

In the coming weeks, all Year 12 students will also meet individually with our Pathways Leader, Mitch McAlpine, to discuss their future plans and receive personalised guidance as they finalise their post-school pathways. These meetings provide valuable support as students make important decisions about study, apprenticeships, employment and other opportunities beyond Homestead Senior Secondary College.

While Term 3 is undoubtedly a busy academic period, it is also important to take time to celebrate our school community. On 7 August, our Year 12 students embraced the opportunity to participate in Crazy Hair Day, bringing plenty of creativity, colour and laughter to the school. It was fantastic to see so many students getting involved and contributing to the positive atmosphere across the campus.

As we move through the term, students are encouraged to continue balancing their academic commitments with their wellbeing. With SACs, pathway planning and upcoming trial exams all on the horizon, maintaining healthy routines and seeking support when required will be key to finishing the year strongly.
