Harmony Week

It's was a beautiful sea of orange last week!

Our students had a fun filled Harmony Week, heightening the awareness for peace and creating it by showing acceptance of others in our classrooms, our school, our community and our world.

Year 4

In Religion, Miss Kerr has been teaching her Year 4 class about Palm Sunday.

The children had some great wonderings about the story.... 'I wonder why Jesus came on a donkey?', 'I wonder what that says about Jesus?' 'I wonder what the people in the crowd were thinking about Jesus' arrival into the city?'

Eucharist28

“This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” John 6:29

Jesus asks us to believe.

Mary Magdalene told the disciples that she had seen the Risen Lord but they dismissed her account.

Even after seeing Him resurrected some of them still did not quite believe.

The Apostles, weak as they were, went out under the power of the Holy Spirit and proclaimed the message Mary Magdalene had brought them: Jesus is risen!

For 2000 years we have sought to continue that witness and proclamation of our Catholic faith.

Our Lord Jesus Christ is truly present with us.

The 54th International Eucharistic Congress in Sydney in 2028 (‘Eucharist28’) is a time for us to go out into the streets in procession, to invite our family and friends to walk with us, to repent and to believe in the Good News of Christ in the Eucharist, commemorated in the sacrifice of the altar around which we gather every Sunday.

And with the news that Pope Leo XIV intends to come to Sydney for the Congress, we can be sure that he will bring the saving proclamation of Jesus Christ to ourselves and to the crowds who will gather from the far reaches of Australia and the Pacific Region.

The procession starts now!

Parishes are getting ready through Eucharistic adoration, prayer, and catechesis.

Meanwhile Ben Galea, our Chief Operating Officer, and his team have been looking at key sites across Sydney, for a Eucharistic procession through the streets of our city, and a closing Mass where we hope that multitudes can gather with the Holy Father to share in the Sunday Eucharist.

Sebastian Condon, our Deputy Chief Operating Officer, has been making available a range of resources for parishes, schools, and supporters, with new materials released each month on the website.

Our ‘walking together’ is truly synodal. From eighteen listening sessions held with representatives from every state, diocese, and eparchy has come the following report

And what I have heard is a desire for reverence, silence, and leadership in Eucharistic renewal from our Shepherds.

I’m excited. I expect you are too! There is plenty to be passionate about.

Expect frequent updates and megaphone announcements from me as this procession gets underway!

Yours in Christ,

Bishop Richard Umbers

Auxiliary Bishop of Sydney

General Secretary, International Eucharistic Congress
