Student Support and Wellbeing

Supporting Our Students over the Holiday Break
As we head into the end of term, I wanted to take a moment to share some of the work happening across the college to support the wellbeing of our students.
Throughout the term, it has been great to connect with so many students, whether that be through one-on-one support, small group work or simply having a chat during the school day. Building positive relationships and providing a safe, supportive space continues to be a key focus.
We are always looking for ways to strengthen student connectedness and create opportunities for young people to feel a sense of belonging within our school community. This includes supporting students to engage in activities, access support when needed and feel comfortable reaching out.
As we move into Term 2, there will be continued opportunities for students to get involved in programs and activities designed to support wellbeing, build confidence and encourage positive connections with others.
If students or families feel that additional support may be helpful, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are here to support our young people in any way we can.
Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable break, and we look forward to seeing students back refreshed and ready for Term 2.
Kind regards,
Gwen - Youth Worker
Supporting Healthy Smiles at School
Good oral health plays an important role in helping students get the most out of their learning. Tooth decay can be painful and may impact sleep, concentration and overall wellbeing, but it can be prevented with a few simple habits.
Eat well
A healthy, balanced diet supports both growing bodies and healthy teeth. Students are encouraged to eat a wide variety of nutritious foods each day, including:
• fruit and vegetables
• grains and cereals such as rice and bread
• dairy products like milk, cheese and yoghurt, or calcium-fortified alternatives
• eggs
• meat and fish
Many packaged snacks marketed to children contain hidden sugars, so it’s worth checking labels and choosing options with less sugar where possible.
Drink well
Fluoridated tap water is the best choice for oral health. Students are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle filled with water to school each day.
Clean well
Brushing teeth twice a day helps remove bacteria that can lead to tooth decay. Using fluoride toothpaste helps strengthen teeth and protect against damage.
The Smile Squad Team from Bairnsdale Regional Health will be visiting our school in Term 3, providing dental care for students at Lakes Entrance Secondary College.
Further information will be shared in Term 2.
Smile Squad is a Victorian Government program that provides free dental care, including check-ups and treatment, to all students enrolled in government schools across Victoria.
Please refer to the informationm below for tips on effective toothbrushing, including guidance for both standard and electric toothbrushes.
