Year 5 Excursion to Taronga Zoo - Thursday 30 April 2026

Year 5 students will be visiting Taronga Zoo on Thursday 30 April 2026 as part of their Science Unit on Adaptations. Students will have the opportunity to investigate the many remarkable adaptations that native species and introduced species have evolved over millions of years to help them thrive in their environment.  Students will observe a range of animals’ adaptations and use stories from Taronga Zoo’s Wildlife Hospital as a case study in considering how adaptations are challenged by today's changing environments and consider what might happen when that environment changes too rapidly and what they can do to become more environmentally conscious.

A permission note was sent to parents to complete last term.

Year 3 and Year 5 Drama Excursion - Seymour Centre - Wednesday 6 May 2026

Time: 8:45 - 12:30pm

Performance: The Box Show by Junkyard Beats

Where: Seymour Centre

Permission: A permission form will be sent out in Week 1 of Term 2

Synopsis: Drawing on inspiration from everyday life – home and the land – Junkyard Beats' The Box Show is a high-energy and captivating performance that will teach your students rhythm and movement, drawing on body percussion and music produced out of recycled materials and everyday objects.

The story takes place in a magical junkyard, home to four characters who wake up each morning to find a new pile of junk. Together, they take the audience on a journey of sustainability and creative recycling. The contents of an abandoned kitchen become the greatest drum set in the world; pipes from a plumber’s van produce eerie melodies; plastic bags are an amazing musical instrument.

In the hands of Junkyard Beats, ordinary household items are transformed into extraordinary musical instruments and unwanted junk comes alive in exciting and surprising ways. With messages of sustainability at its heart, The Box Show is filled with inspiration, humour, and a lot of rhythm.

Service Learning Incursion Year 2 - Wednesday 13 and 20 May 2026

On Wednesday 13 May and Wednesday 20 May 2025, Year 2 will take part in a service-learning incursion, Scones and Stories, run by Kids Giving Back. This intergenerational program brings Kambala students together with aged care residents for meaningful connection, conversation and fun.

The experience begins with a letter exchange, where students and residents introduce themselves and share a little about their lives. Students will then take part in a pre-visit session led by a Kids Giving Back facilitator, focusing on respectful interaction, active listening and inclusive games.

On the day, students and residents will share scones and jam, enjoy games, and exchange stories. This enriching program supports students to build empathy, confidence and social responsibility, while offering residents companionship, stimulation and connection.

Mr David Smith from ySafe will conduct sessions with our Year 2 - Year 6 cohorts on Friday 22 May 2026. These sessions have been developed to educate students about the fundamental components of cyber safety. We offer developmentally targeted sessions which address key cyber risks, and build capacity in young people to navigate the digital platforms they encounter.

We emphasise the constructive relationship children can have with technology under our positive digital citizenship ethos and up-skill students in understanding the importance of online safety and ways to implement safe online practices.
