YEAR 1

FROM THE CLASSROOM

In Wellbeing we are learning about what respect in the yard looks like, how we can show respect in the playground and how we play with others.  We are also learning ways we can handle being scared.

In Reading, we are practising identifying interesting words in a chosen mentor text and learning how to find the main idea of a story. This helps us in retelling the story in our own words.

In Writing, we are learning to use nouns and adjectives in our writing to make it more interesting, these are used in our 'Little Red Riding Hood' story by describing the ‘wicked wolf’ and the ‘tall, strong, brave woodcutter.’

During Phonics, we continued to learn sounds with: or (sports shorts) and aw (Mr Shaw). Students look at these sounds through reading and writing tasks.

In Mathematics, we are ordering and investigating length using vocabulary such longer and shorter and using different objects to measure (icy pole sticks, unifix blocks)

In Inquiry we are continuing to learn about plants. We have looked at plant parts, gone on walks around the school and observed plants in the garden.
