National Reconciliation Week

Gallery Image

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is an annual event in Australia that encourages all Australians to learn about shared histories, cultures, and achievement, and to actively contribute to reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The week commemorates two key milestones: the 1967 referendum, which granted the Australian Government power to make laws for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and include them in the Census, and the High Court Mabo decision which legally recognised Indigenous peoples as the traditional owners of their land.

The 2026 theme ‘ALL IN’, emphasizes that reconciliation is not a passive activity or the responsibility of First Nations people alone.  It calls on all Australians to step off the sidelines and take meaningful action to advance justice, equality, and recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The theme also highlights reciprocity, encouraging shared responsibility and mutual respect in the reconciliation process.

To demonstrate our commitment to the reconciliation process, students have participated in a range of learning experiences to deepen their understanding of the importance of Reconciliation week.

These activities have included -

Yarning circles, listening to dreaming stories, making message sticks, indigenous painting and playing indigenous games.

NRW Prayer

Creator of all,

We come before You with open hearts,

acknowledging the deep wounds of our shared history.

We honour the First Peoples of this land,

their stories, their wisdom, and their enduring connection to Country.

Guide us to walk gently,

to listen with compassion,

and to speak with truth.

Help us to turn sorrow into understanding,

and understanding into action.

May our steps together be steady and strong,

building bridges of trust,

and weaving a future where justice and peace embrace.

In Your love,

we find the courage to reconcile,

and the hope to begin anew.

Amen.

Pentecost - Sunday 24th May

Sunday the 24th of May is Pentecost Sunday.

Pentecost recalls the fulfilment of Jesus’ promise to send the Holy Spirit to his disciples after he ascended into heaven. The Gospel tells us that the disciples were feeling lost and afraid before they experienced the Holy Spirit in what felt like wind and fire. After this experience they were changed, and we strengthen to spread Jesus’ message and teaching throughout the world. This is why Pentecost is often called the birthday of the Church.

Family Liturgical Activities

Easter to Pentecost Activity

At the beginning of the term each family was invited to participate in an activity which explored the concept of new life during the season of Easter.

The Season of Easter concludes at Pentecost this weekend. This week you will receive a little concluding prayer that you may wish to use to finish off that activity as a family.

Pentecost family affirmations activity

On Thursday each family will receive a copy of the poster below and instructions for a Pentecost activity you are invited to participate in as a family:

The Holy Spirit is present in each of us; we experience its movements every day. At Pentecost we are invited to share the ways the spirit is present in our family by reflecting on the scripture passage Galatians 5:22-23:

We pray for the Sacramental Candidates for Confirmation and Eucharist

A number of students have commenced their preparation for the Sacraments of Confirmation and first Eucharist. We join with the student's family and the parish community in praying for the students as they prepare to receive these special Sacraments of Christian Initiation. May this be a time of spiritual growth and understanding.
