3XCup Basketball State Finals
At the 3XCup Basketball Primary Qualifying Day on Wednesday 25 March, Cooper D, William L and Travis M qualified to compete in the 3XCup Basketball State Finals on Friday 1 May at the State Basketball Centre in Wantirna South.
On Friday 1st May, Cooper, Will and I represented Essex Heights at the 3x3 Cup Primary Schools State Basketball Championships. This was the first time Essex Heights entered a 3X3 competition and we were so happy to represent our school and qualify for the State finals. My favourite part of the day was when we won our last pool game with a 2 pointer in overtime.
The round of 16 was next. In 3x3 rules, the game ends early when a team reaches 21 points. We won this game 21-15. Sadly, we lost our quarterfinal, but we are very proud that our team finished 8th overall in Victoria.
We couldn’t have achieved this without the support of Mr Perini, Miss Kemp, Ms Hocking and our parents – especially my Dad.
Travis M – Year 5
We competed in the State 3xCup finals on May 1st. There were sixteen teams that competed on the day. We won two of our six games and made it to the quarter finals. Sadly, we lost but we showed great teamwork. We would like to give a shout out to Travis who shot a three to win the game. Thanks to our parents for driving us and Miss Kemp for coming to watch and support us.

NETBALL
On Wednesday 22nd of April I tried out for the State School Netball tryouts at Waverley Netball Centre. It was a fun and exciting experience. It was a tough competition because all the people there were talented, there were lots of schools I competed against. I played four ten-minute games, and they were hard matches. I tried my best I ran a lot and got a few goals. I’m proud of my efforts and I encourage everyone to always have a go.
Amiya S – Year 6
On the 22nd April, I trialled for the Team Victoria Netball team and it was an amazing experience. There were forty people trialling and two of us from Essex Heights, Amiya and me. I learned a lot and improved my skills and confidence. I really enjoyed the challenge and the chance to compete with strong players. I’m proud that I gave it my best effort. Thank you to Ms Hocking and Miss Kemp for nominating me and I’m excited for the future.
Samantha – Year 6
CRICKET
I would like to share my experience when I went to the Victorian under 12s cricket team trials. It was really exciting but I felt a bit nervous. Once I started playing, I really enjoyed myself. It was a great challenge because everyone was very talented, which pushed me to try my best in batting, bowling and fielding. I had a great time meeting new teammates and learning from the coaches. I felt proud and grateful that I was selected for the trials. I also learned to stay focused, listen carefully and keep trying even when things were hard or made a mistake. Overall, it was a really fun and special experience that helped me feel more confident in my cricket and showed me what I could improve.
Vivaan – Year 6
SOCCER
I competed in the Team Victoria Soccer trials last Tuesday. Unfortunately, Kenan didn’t make it because he didn’t feel well. The venue was about an hour drive from home. I saw a few of my teammates there and we played together. The players were very strong and we had some good plays. They had to pick fourteen players out of one hundred and twenty. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it but I played my best and had fun.
Thank you to Ms Hocking for giving me the opportunity and my parents for driving me.
