Prep/1 Classroom Learning Highlights
In Mathematics, students have been strengthening their number knowledge through hands-on investigations and creative learning tasks. Prep and Grade 1 students explored skip counting patterns, created colourful skip counting flower crafts, and developed their understanding of number bonds by breaking whole numbers into smaller parts using number bond chains. Students have also been building fluency through daily subitising and number activities, helping to grow confidence and flexibility with numbers.
In Digital Technologies, students have been learning about algorithms and how clear step-by-step instructions help solve problems. A highlight was becoming “human Bee-Bots,” where students worked with partners to give and follow instructions through an obstacle course, learning firsthand why instructions need to be clear, specific, and in the correct order. Students also enjoyed applying this learning through fun problem-solving activities that encouraged teamwork and logical thinking.
In Health and Wellbeing, students explored healthy eating and learned about foods that help our bodies grow, stay strong, and give us energy. They practised identifying healthy everyday foods and understanding the difference between foods we should enjoy regularly and treats we should only have sometimes.
In Science, students investigated the sun and moon, learning about the important role each plays in our world. They explored concepts such as day and night, warmth, light, and how the sun helps living things grow, before creating their own interactive day and night spinners.
In Art, students enjoyed creating seasonal artwork by designing their own rotating Seasons Wheel, helping them identify and explore the changes that occur across the four seasons.
Walk to School Day was another exciting highlight, with students proudly taking part in this wonderful community event. It was fantastic to see so many students walking to school, promoting healthy habits, enjoying time with friends, and representing our school so positively.
It has been another busy and rewarding fortnight of learning, and we are so proud of the enthusiasm, resilience, and kindness our Prep and Grade 1 students continue to show each day.
Team 2/3
Yet another busy fortnight for Grade 2/3. We have set a target of 1000 points for our class celebration- PJ Disco! The students are very excited. Each students need to get about 5 points a week to achieve this goal. We are already well on our way to achieving this target. Stay tuned for information on when we will be celebrating towards the end of the term!
Our students have approached our recent assessments with a great attitude. It can be a little monotonous! The results have been pleasing with all students doing well.
Our class really enjoyed the Martial Arts session earlier this week. Some students were a little out of their comfort zone but they showed a willingness to have a go and really enjoyed themselves. Make sure you see the photos below.
Congratulations to Reuben who anticipated in the Sandhurst Division Cross Country last Friday. Reuben did a great job against hundreds of other kids. Thanks for representing our school so well, Reubs!
In Literacy, we have a new book- Off We Go Around Australia by Roland Harvey. The students are REALLY enjoying the illustrations which is great as we begin a unit of inference. The students are using the illustrations to infer what characters might be feeling and what they may have been doing.
In Maths, we have begun a topic of Fractions. The students already seem to have a good grounding in their knowledge. We have spent a couple of days reviewing what we know and beginning to extend their learning. Students are working on developing their knowledge of 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5, 1/10, finding fractions of a whole, equivalent fractions and placing fractions on a number line. They are making a great start!
4/5/6 News
Last Tuesday the students got to try 3 special activities to celebrate Education Week: a ‘Room on the Broom’ literacy activity with Mr. Cruse, maths data collection with Mrs Clarke, and ancient Roman mosaics for humanities with Miss Hillgrove. It was lovely to see so many families joining in on the fun, and the students produced great work!
In Literacy we have been diving deep into reading comprehension, practicing how to find evidence in the text to support our answers. We have also been learning about free and bound bases in spelling, exploring how the bound bases tract and ject need extra morphemes added to them to unlock their meaning.
In Maths our unit on probability is progressing nicely, and the students are applying what they know about decks of cards to discuss the likelihood of different outcomes. They are also learning to apply what they already know to unfamiliar questions, and as a group we have been practicing how to approach tricky questions with a variety of different strategies.
Our entire classroom has been demonstrating our school value Work Hard as they have been completing all of their mid-year testing. It’s been an intensive few weeks, but they have been showing their resilience and making sure that they take their time to demonstrate how much their knowledge has grown. They should all be very proud of themselves!
