Hello!

Fr Ian's Celebration

Gallery Image

Last Sunday, our parish community gathered at St. Finbar’s to celebrate a truly special occasion as Fr Ian marked his Golden Jubilee and retirement after 50 years of faithful priestly service. It was wonderful to see so many families, parishioners, friends, and members of our school community fill both the church and school hall to honour this remarkable milestone. We thank everyone who attended and helped make the day such a memorable celebration of Fr Ian’s dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to sharing God’s love with others. We extend our heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to Fr Ian and wish him every blessing in this next chapter of life.

Fr Ian will also be at our school assembly on Friday 12th of June where we will come together as a school community to thank him for all this hard work and dedication that he has put into our school and parish over the last 10 years. He has been a wonderful Parish priest and a positive faith leader to many.

We warmly invite all families and friends to join us for our Whole School Sacred Heart Mass on Thursday 11 June at 9:30am.

Our students will be actively involved in the Mass, sharing their gifts through readings, prayers, and music. We look forward to welcoming you to this special gathering of faith and community in our Church.

Gospel Reflection - Sunday 7th of June

Sunday's Gospel

John 6:51-58

Jesus says, “I am the living bread.”

Family Connection

Our faith teaches us that when we gather to celebrate Mass, Jesus is present to us. The bread and wine truly become the Body and Blood of Christ. This is what we mean by the word transubstantiation: Jesus makes himself present to all who receive the Body and Blood of Christ.

If there are children in your family who have already celebrated their First Holy Communion, invite them to share their memories of this special day. If there are family photos taken on this occasion, bring them out and share them together. Adults in the family may also share memories or photos that they have of their First Communion.

Reflect together on what Jesus means when he calls himself the “living bread.” Recall that every time we receive the Eucharist, Jesus keeps the promise he made in today’s Gospel—those who eat his flesh and drink his blood will remain forever connected to him. Perhaps family members can share what it means for them to receive Jesus in the Eucharist. Together thank God for this gift of Holy Communion. Pray together the Lord’s Prayer or today’s Psalm.

Family Discussion

After reading Sunday's gospel, discuss the following:

  • Jesus says, "I am the living bread." What do you think Jesus means by these words?
  • How does receiving Holy Communion help us to grow closer to Jesus?
  • Can you remember a time when you felt God's love or presence in your life?
  • What are some ways we can share Jesus' love with others this week?

Family Activity

Sometime this weekend, come together as a family and make a meal together. Each family member may have a special role in preparing, serving, and sharing the food as a reminder that when we gather around the table, we are also reminded of Jesus, the living bread who nourishes and unites us in love.
