Principal's Report
Simone Roy
Just a reminder that next week is a shorter week, with the King’s Birthday public holiday on Monday and then a student free day on Tuesday allocated as a Professional Practice Day for teachers.
I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable long weekend! With the Winter Solstice only a couple of weeks away, this time of year can be difficult. Short daytimes, cold weather and illness can wear us all down – make sure you do something positive for yourself this weekend, and check in on others.
We are looking forward to seeing our students again on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, after they've had a timely break from school! Unit 1 exams are also scheduled next week; we know that students will do their best and benefit from experiencing this style of assessment.
This week, I proudly sat in the front row for the Middle School drama class play, Unspoken Steps. This class has a total of 4 keen and talented students, who chose this class to develop and extend their existing skills.
The students wrote and performed their own play; the story of the growth of 3 young ballet students, from the age of 8 to adulthood. As the young dancers grow, their passion and dedication to their ballet studies varies, with 2 of the girls finally moving away from their beginnings – retaining their friendship, but destined to walk on their own path in life.
Each student performed as part of the ensemble, but also completed a solo performance in their areas of strength. Well done to them all! Congratulations also to Louise McCracken for stepping into this class for the first time and nurturing this small group so they could shine.
Following the in-principle agreement reached between the Department and the Australian Education Union (AEU), the AEU informed the Department on 18 May 2026 that all industrial action related to negotiations to finalise the new Victorian Government Schools Agreement (VGSA) has been entirely suspended. The Department has agreed that, due to the late lifting of the industrial action, writing comments for reports this semester could prove difficult.
As such, our achievement reports for Semester 1 this year will provide important details about student learning attainment, but full descriptive comments will not be included as a result of the industrial action taken earlier this term by the Australian Education Union.
The reports will still indicate student achievement against the relevant curriculum areas of the Victorian Curriculum F–10, as usual, and will be distributed via Compass on the last day of Term 2, Friday 26th June.
We are always happy to discuss your child’s progress with you. You can contact the class teacher directly to arrange a meeting or conversation. The Student Engagement Leader is another avenue if you would like to talk to a number of the teachers, or we look forward to a discussion at our next parent-teacher interviews, scheduled towards the end of Term 3.
Many of our Year 9 students had their interview with a Morrisby consultant this week. They received the results of the assessment questionnaire they completed a little while ago, and had key information about their strengths and potential pathways explained to them.
Careers education is an important aspect of schooling. It ensures that students are guided to plan for their future, and know and draw upon their strengths. If you would like to hear a summary about what information was provided to your child, please contact Jo Macklan to organise a time to talk.
