CONGRATULATIONS TO MIDDLE PARK PRIMARY SCHOOL – SOUTHERN PORT DISTRICT HOCKEY CHAMPIONS 2026

Congratulations to our Middle Park Primary School Hockey Team, who were crowned Southern Port District Hockey Champions after an unforgettable final against Port Melbourne Primary School.

Following the completion of the Round Robin matches, Pool A winners Port Melbourne Primary and Pool B winners Middle Park Primary progressed to the Southern Port District Final. What followed was an absolute epic contest that showcased the outstanding skill, teamwork and determination of both schools.

With the Round Robin competition finishing ahead of schedule, organisers made the decision to play the final on a larger pitch, similar to the format used in the next stage of the Schools Hockey 7 competition. The larger playing area allowed for an exciting 7 v 7 match and highlighted the exceptional standard of hockey on display.

At full time (16 minutes), the score remained locked at 0–0, sending the match into five minutes of extra time. Despite numerous attacking opportunities from both teams, neither side was able to break the deadlock.

The game then moved into Golden Goal extra time, with teams reduced to five players each. In a dramatic moment with just one minute remaining, Port Melbourne appeared to score, with celebrations erupting both on and off the field. However, the goal was disallowed due to an earlier infringement, and the match continued at 0–0.

The final then entered a second period of Golden Goal extra time, with teams reduced further to just three players each. The fast-paced end-to-end action continued before Middle Park finally broke through with a brilliant 2-on-1 attacking play into the circle, scoring the winning goal with less than a minute remaining.

The final whistle sparked scenes of celebration from a group of exhausted but incredibly happy players.

What an incredible finish to a fantastic day of hockey.

This match will no doubt become part of Middle Park Primary sporting folklore for years to come — and deservedly so.
