Cyber Safety Project
The Cyber Safety Project delivered a series of dynamic and engaging presentations to our Year 7, 8, and 9 students, as well as a dedicated parent session this past week.
Their message was clear: while young people are spending increasing amounts of time on social media, many still lack the understanding of how to behave respectfully and responsibly online. This challenge is amplified when students are alone in their bedrooms, navigating what is essentially an unfiltered, unsupervised digital playground.
The presenters avoided alarmism or anti‑technology rhetoric; instead, they reinforced the importance of simple respect and manners — values we continually promote at St Peter’s College and which we know families also strive to instil. Particularly eye‑opening was the discussion around platforms such as Roblox, where some of the 44 million available games contain hidden racist, sexist, or political content, posing real risks for young people who may not yet recognise manipulation or unsafe environments.
We continue to encourage families to adopt clear boundaries at home: no devices in bedrooms, early installation of parental filters, and establishing expectations from a young age. Many of the issues we see at school stem from impulsive or argumentative online group‑chat exchanges — bravado that rarely translates to face‑to‑face interactions. While recent reports highlight improvements in social interactions since the national social media restrictions, and we have seen similar positive shifts in our own schoolyard, there is still important work ahead.
Through our pastoral care program and student wellbeing initiatives, we will continue to educate, support, and partner with families to help young people understand their boundaries, responsibilities, and the importance of respectful digital citizenship.
Mother’s Day Breakfast – A Wonderful Morning of Community
Our Mother’s Day Breakfast was an outstanding success, and it was wonderful to see so many families joining us for such a warm and lively start to the day. We hope our mother's and significant women felt celebrated and valued.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Pastoral Care leader Mrs Hemming, whose exceptional planning, preparation, and leadership of the SRC ensured the event was both meaningful and student‑centred. Her commitment to authentic student voice, shared planning, and steady guidance at every stage resulted in a truly memorable celebration.
We also extend our sincere gratitude to Mrs King, who dedicated countless hours — including working late into the evening and returning before sunrise — to cater for almost 400 guests. Her expertise, creativity, and calm professionalism were evident in every detail.
Thank you to Mrs Lloyd-Smith for her ongoing support, organisation, and ability to keep every moving part on track. Events of this scale simply do not run smoothly without her exceptional attention to detail.
The relaxed, stand‑up, finger‑food format creates space for conversation, connection, and genuine community spirit — and once again, the feedback from parents we spoke to was overwhelmingly positive.
Thank you to everyone who joined us. This event seems to be growing every year
Educational Support Day
Friday’s Educational Support Day gave us a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the many educational support staff whose work underpins the daily life of St Peter’s College.
These are the people who greet families at the front desk, keep our school running smoothly in finance and administration, support learning in classrooms, science labs, and food tech rooms, and contribute across the countless support roles that make a modern school function in 2026.
To acknowledge their contribution, we hosted a special morning tea and presented personalised cards recognising not only their outstanding work, but also the warmth, kindness, and humanity they bring to our community. Their efforts often happen behind the scenes, yet their impact is felt everywhere — in the calmness of a well‑organised day, in the care shown to students, and in the stability they help create for young people.
As parents, we encourage you that next time you interact with one of our support staff, you take a moment to express your appreciation. At St Peter’s College, we see them as absolutely central to our mission of caring for and supporting your young people, and we are proud to celebrate the vital work they do every day.
