STEM

Over the past few weeks in STEM, students have been exploring the fascinating world of Biological Sciences through a range of hands-on investigations and design challenges.

Our Prep–2 students discovered what all living things need to survive, including air, water, food and shelter. They explored how humans are animals too and identified the observable features of plants and animals, sorting them into different groups based on these characteristics. For example, sorting animals based on their coverings (fur, feathers, scales, skin).

In Years 3–5, students investigated the differences between living, non-living and once-living things. They became young palaeontologists as they explored how fossils are formed and what they can tell us about life long ago. Students also compared the life cycles of different plants and animals, recognising that offspring are similar to, but not identical to, their parents.

Our Year 5/6 students stepped into the role of Habitat Engineers, designing habitats that meet the needs of living things. They examined how human impacts can change habitats and developed creative solutions to help protect plants and animals. Students also investigated the amazing adaptations of animals, learning how their structural features and behaviours help them survive in different environments.

It has been wonderful to see students asking thoughtful questions, working collaboratively, and applying their creativity to learning tasks.
